Capitola stay. Avertissements: photos overload.

This year, hubby and I decided to go to Capitola instead of our usual Santa Cruz. Actually he decided but I didn't budge on a beachfront hotel. lol A woman gotta keep her stand on important issues like that. lol

We got there in less than 3 hours BUT there was a race going on. Wharf to wharf and we drove around for 45 minutes in finding an open street. What would of taken us 5 minutes took us longer and the kids woke up just as we saw people passing us by while we waiting for the roads to open. Finally we got to our hotel but the room wasn't ready. Rats! We stayed at the Venetian Hotel. It was old but right at the beach with a nice view. It had enough beds for my family, my parents and my father-in-law. There was also 1 1/2 bathrooms and a small kitchen. The price isn't cheap but it's what you get close to the beach. Now close to our hotel were beautiful homes and condos...or an arm and a leg cost. lol

That day, it was sunny but very windy and chilly. That's the problem with west coast beaches. The water is not warm and this year, the seaweed was wild! The kids loved it though. Making sandcastles, digging holes, find "treasures" around the water and seaweed. At night, it was amazing to see thick fog covering the beach then 2 minutes later, clear then once again, thick fog. The room had a balcony but it was too cold to sit outside so we stayed in, watching the view while sipping coffee. I think everyone enjoyed the trip even though some of us were sick. The kids brought their treasures home. My daughter still has her "treasures" from 3 years ago from Santa Cruz. Keeping them for her until she gets older and maybe enjoys walking on memory lane.

I think next time we'll go somewhere else and see what other beaches there is at the coast. Of course it'll be a beachfront hotel. That's how I roll baby. That's how I roll.

Where we stayed. On the right side, top corner is where our room was. Right accross a small canal and restaurants. The living room window is large so we did have a great view.

That next morning we took a walk. There was working people at another hotel telling us not to walk on the beach because there was a female seal with her pup and she might bite us. As we walked on the pier, a young man was jogging at the beach, straight to the female. Yikes! I guess he didn't see her since she blended with the seaweed. Thank goodness he stopped a few feet away and she just lifted her head up. Her pup though, started to crawl away from fear. No one got hurt.

Some fisherman caught 2 large fish and got them filleted right there at the pier!

Another fisherman got a catch but a greedy seagall dove into his line and got tangled. They got a net and lifted it up. There were able to get the poor animal free and it flew away but not before biting the big toe of the fisherman. lol
